Calendars are very important for the people. Every day we do some work according the calendars. Someone grinds, cuts rye, grows wheat or cabbage and do everything according to the calendar. Thus, everyone wants to plan his activity with purpose to get successful results. Everyone desires to have successful activity and tries to do it with a help of a calendar carefully and systematically. But there is another side of the calendar ...

Look, what a variety of calendars do we have: with cars, girls, and sports. But these topics are not related with calendar directly. Calendars are produced with naked woman or castles or space pictures. Well I understand, when it is with plants, which grows according seasons, but why it is with pictures not related to seasons? So it is some sort of culture. We like pictures and hang them on the walls. It represents our hobby, features of life and personality.

All to all the calendar is not only beneficial for seasoning and planning, but also they help us to show ourselves to others, to express our opinion and mood.

Most countries live according to the Gregorian calendar, which appeared in the 16th century. The countdown begins from the supposed date of Jesus Christ's birth —now it is 2024. However, some people and even states use their calendars in a way that is parallel to the generally accepted Gregorian calendar. We have selected several countries where the "local" year differs from the one we are used to.

Jewish - 5784 year
Used in Israel along with the Gregorian. This calendar is used to celebrate Jewish holidays and birthdays, and the corresponding chapters of the Torah are read in synagogues.

Chinese Lunar- 4721 year
It is known primarily for its 60-year cycles, where each year is dedicated to a certain element and animal. Now, for example, it is the year of the Black Water Rabbit

Buddhist -2567 year
The countdown begins from the moment Buddha Gautama departs into nirvana—for us, this is 543 BC. The calendar parallels the Gregorian calendar in Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka. In Thailand, the Buddhist calendar is used as the official calendar.

Ethiopian - 2016 year
The count begins on August 29, 8 AD, according to the ancient Coptic calendar. Christians, both Catholics and Orthodox, use the calendar in Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Islamic- 1446 year
The calendar began in 622 when the Prophet Muhammad moved from Mecca to Medina. Until 2016, it was the official calendar in Saudi Arabia. Muslims now use it to determine the dates of religious holidays.

Iranian -1403 year
The starting point of this Muslim calendar is the same as the Islamic one, 622. However, unlike this, the Iranian calendar is based not on lunar cycles but on solar ones currently used in Iran and Afghanistan.

Juche calendar - 113 year
Since 1997, North Korea has used the Juche calendar in parallel with the Gregorian calendar. The beginning of the calendar is the year of Kim Il Sung's birth, 1912. When writing dates, both calendars are used - it looks like "September 20, 112 Juche [2024]."

Japanese - 5 year
In Japan, the calendar begins anew when a new emperor, upon ascending the throne, announces the name of the period - the motto under which he will reign. The current head of state, Emperor Naruhito, ascended the throne on May 1, 2019 - the Reiwa era began.
